Learnt  via  twitter that lonely Brits are so desperate to look popular online they are “buying” friends for social networking sites. They pay £125 for bulk packages of 1,000 “pals” on Facebook and Twitter.
The day is not far off when    such “lonely Brits” would be more the norm than the exception,  creating new revenue streams for businesses that live off peoples’ insecurities. After the weight-loss industry, the anti-aging industry, the sexual prowess industry, we have the insecurity industry which feeds off people’s doubts about themselves and their  fears that deep down they are  unlovable. For a price, you can now have virtual friends  who will shower you with online affection.
