Parts  of Delhi on the eve of The Commonwealth Games look  like adverts for disaster tourists. If you can’t make it to Haiti or Congo or someplace which has just been bombed, you could come to Delhi.   In the city that saw the rise and fall of so many empires, we now live with the everyday  fear of falling into a ditch. Connaught Place, the one-time central business district, is cratered… But India’s unique genius is to survive even when you are down in the ditches… As for me, I shall don my trench coat and pose stylishly as I get ready for life in the ditches…..
